Sonic The Hedgehog 3 Isn’t Eligible For “Best Picture” At The Oscars

This is why people don't like The Oscars!

Sonic The Hedgehog 3

Sometimes, even if it’s possible, you wish for something “cool” to happen just so you can talk about it later. In the case of Sonic The Hedgehog 3, fans and critics were blown away by the film’s emotional story, performances, and twists. It’s helped the franchise cross a billion dollars in box office revenue and the fact we got Keanu Reeves as Shadow the Hedgehog automatically made the film peak. However, regarding The Oscars, the film has been declared “ineligible” for the “Best Picture” category, and many aren’t happy about that. The fans. The fans aren’t happy about that.

Now, yes, it would’ve been VERY unlikely for Sonic The Hedgehog 3 to get nominated for “Best Picture,” but it’s nice to dream! The Wrap was the one who broke down everything, and many are in agreement that the “rules” for getting nominated for “Best Picture” are FAR too strict.

We also know that some of the TRUE best pictures of the year won’t get nominated even if they are eligible, such as Deadpool & Wolverine or Inside Out 2. Let’s also not forget that The Oscars didn’t nominate “Peaches” for “Best Song” when The Super Mario Bros Movie came out in 2023, which was a snob of epic proportions.

Guess video game movies still have a ways to go before getting true recognition…
