Hideki Kamiya Makes Clear Statement On Why He Left PlatinumGames

...remember, he's always this blunt.

One of the things that makes the gaming industry so unique is the various “personalities” on certain game development teams that help them stand out from the rest. Shigeru Miyamoto, Todd Howard, Yoko Taro, and more come to mind on that front. Yet, for some, none are as interesting or as blunt as Hideki Kamiya. This is the man behind many great titles, including the Bayonetta franchise. Yet, at The Game Awards, he shocked the world by revealing that he had made a new studio in “Clover” that was making an Okami sequel.

Then, in an interview afterward, he noted why he left PlatinumGames over a year ago:

He also noted, “Making games at a company is not a hobby, nor a charity project.”

While some would disagree with that first line, you can see why he said that in certain ways. He’s dedicated to the gaming craft, and he wants to be in a place where he can express himself and his gaming desires in the titles he makes. One can only wonder what he and Capcom will get up to once the Okami sequel is finished. More than likely, it’ll be whatever he wants it to be.
