Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown Team Has Been Disbanded

Things continue on a downward trend for Ubisoft, amid a flurry of recent solemn news for the company between a delay for its biggest release, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows and the board putting the company under review, now comes confirmation that the team behind Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown their most critically acclaimed and highest user rated game of the year, has been disbanded and shifted to other teams within Ubisoft.

According to response by the game’s senior producer Abdelhal Elguess to Eurogamer, basically confirms the initial report from Youtube channel Origami that the team was dissolved and would not be working on any more post-launch content for the title.

Prince of Persia

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is now at the end of its Post-Launch roadmap with three free content updates and one DLC that released in September. We are now focusing on making the game available to more players: it was recently launched on Steam, and will be available on Mac by this winter.

Most of the team members who worked on Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown have shifted to other projects that will benefit from their expertise. We know players have a love for this brand and Ubisoft is excited to bring more Prince of Persia experiences in the future.”

Origami says the sequel had been proposed by the team, but it was not greenlit most likely due to low sales numbers of Lost Crown. The only good news is that said team is still working at Ubisoft, albeit on other projects.

Its saddening to see a fantastic game such as Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown not meet internal expectations, which only further increases the turbulent narrative Ubisoft currently finds itself under. Especially in the current climate of video games where fresh ideas, even for existing IP, are few and far between. At least for fans of the Prince of Persia series, they do have the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake in development currently slated for a 2026 release.
