Marvel’s Blade Film Has Been Indefinitely Delayed

As a wise man once said, "There will ever only be one Blade."

Marvel, Blade

When Mahershala Ali walked onto the stage of Hall H to help reveal that Blade was coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, everyone was excited. He even had a small cameo (through his voice) in the Eternals end-credits sequence, signaling that the “Daywalker” might be on our screens sooner rather than later. Except, the film never got beyond pre-production. In fact, it has one of the most troubled productions in the history of the MCU. To that end, as noted by Variety, the movie has been taken off the Marvel Studios schedule. In other words, it’s on an indefinite delay.

An official reason for this has not been given, however, it doesn’t take a genius to see why it’s been removed “for the time being.” For example, it was slated to come out next year, but again, it hasn’t even gone into production. Second, the film has had numerous directors, writers, and more walk out on it, and there were rumors that the movie had all sorts of plots that were pitched, moved forward, redone, and so on. There was even one report that said that despite it being called “Blade,” the vampire hunter wasn’t going to be the main character!

This will frustrate fans to no end for a basic reason: We KNOW that good Blade movies exist! In fact, when Guillermo Del Toro did the first two films starring the character, they were so good that it was what basically kicked off the “superhero movie boom.” Yet, somehow, Marvel Studios can’t seem to put together a plot about a half-man/half-vampire who goes out and kills other vampires. That says a lot about their creative choices as of late…
