Everything We Know About Ghost Of Yōtei So Far

Earlier today, Ghost of Yōtei was announced at PlayStation’s State of Play event. Since then, we have been given a few more details, so here is everything we know so far.

  • A New Region of Japan – As the title of the game suggests, we are no longer on the island of Tsushima. In this follow-up to Ghost of Tsushima, we will explore the lands around Mount Yōtei in the area known today as Hokkaido.
  • More Than Three Hundred Years Later – That’s right, Ghost of Yōtei is set in the year 1603, more than 300 years after the events of Ghost of Tsushima. So, don’t expect Jin Sakai or his friends to turn up.
  • A New Protagonist – Obviously, taking place centuries later, Ghost of Yōtei will have a new protagonist called Atsu. At the moment, we have no additional details regarding Atsu, however, she will be voiced by Erika Ishii and is most definitely female.

Sucker Punch seems to be very excited about what these changes could mean. Over on the PlayStation Blog, they had this to say…

“This is also Sucker Punch’s first game built from the ground up for PlayStation 5, and we’re excited to build on the visual foundation we established in Ghost of Tsushima by making the world feel even more real. We have massive sightlines that let you look far across the environment, whole new skies featuring twinkling stars and auroras, even more believable movement from wind on grass and vegetation, and more improvements we’ll share in the future. Our new setting also gives us the opportunity to introduce new mechanics, gameplay improvements, and even new weapons.”

We have much more to learn about Ghost of Yōtei between now and its 2025 release. From this initial trailer, one thing I can say for certain is that I am excited and can’t wait to see what new mechanics, characters, and settings await us. If you haven’t already, be sure to check out the full trailer below.

Ghost Of Yōtei is scheduled for release on PlayStation 5 in 2025.

It’s going to be a very long way until Ghost of Yōtei is released, so if you haven’t already played Ghost of Tsushima, perhaps now is the time.

Jordan has been playing games since the age of six. This ignited a passion which initially led him towards game development before trying his hand in the realm of games media, starting in 2022. It turns out he's quite good at it, even if he doesn't always believe in himself. Now, just a few short years later, not only is Jordan a valued member of our staff here at The Outerhaven, but he also co-owns and helps to run Analog Stick Gaming.
