Nintendo Switch Successor Already Lining Up Big 3rd Parties For Launch Window Releases?

Who's in this time around?

Have you ever felt like you “missed the boat” on something big? Sure, at the time, you couldn’t have guessed the thing you missed would be big, but you had the chance to “take a swing,” and yet it didn’t? When the Nintendo Switch arrived in 2017, it had strong support from the numerous 1st party franchises within The Big N, but the 3rd parties weren’t as numerous to start. Sure, some did throw their support in early, like Square Enix, Atlus, and even Ubisoft and Bethesda, but others were more gunshy. Thus, when the system DID take off, they were playing catchup.

Fast forward to now, and everyone is anticipating when the Switch successor will be announced, and who will have big games on it. According to analyst Paul Gale, some of the people who weren’t “on board” last time, are making clear efforts to be there for the Switch 2 this time:

A few major third party developers whom at E3 2017 weren’t anticipating Nintendo Switch taking off the way it did and didn’t have a Triple A title at launch/the show itself, are working on big launch window releases for Nintendo’s next system.

That’s significant, and it points to the “swelling of support and approval” that Nintendo has earned over these last seven years. While we can’t speculate on who will try to have something at launch, or in the first few months, we do know some companies that could show support. Atlus might bring Persona 3 Reload to the Switch 2, as has been rumored for a while. Platinum Games could try to have something at launch, and we’d be shocked if Capcom and Square Enix didn’t have something in that first year, too.

Plus, if you really want to “swing at the fences,” how about Larian Studios bringing Baldur’s Gate 3 to the Switch 2? Wouldn’t that be cool?
