Bioware’s Dragon Age: The Veilguard To Be Playable on Steam Deck

There hasn’t been a single person I’ve spoken to who enjoys RPGs and hasn’t been looking forward to Bioware’s Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Among them, many have exclaimed how excited they are to play the game on the go instead of being tied down to a console or PC, especially on the Steam Deck. Oh, being an EA game, that may pose a problem. Or would have.

However, at the time, we didn’t know if the game would be playable on the Steam Deck, since EA has been releasing its games on its own digital storefront and launcher, which isn’t compatible with Valve’s handheld gaming device. Fortunately, things have taken a turn for the better, and EA has delivered a massive win for the Steam Deck community by announcing that Dragon Age: The Veilguard will indeed be playable on the Steam Deck. Not only that, but it’s also been verified by Valve. So, that’s two massive wins!

We're making great progress towards our fall launch date, and can confirm early that #DragonAge: The Veilguard is going all-in on @Steam features!
⚔️We're verified on Steam Deck.
⚔️We'll be Steam native – meaning the EA App will not be required to play the game.

While I plan to play Dragon Age: The Veilguard on my PC and Asus ROG Ally X when I’m not near it, I’m glad to see that EA has recognized the appeal of releasing its first Dragon Age game in 10 years on a device that has captured the hearts of thousands of PC gamers. As a PC gamer, this is significant.

Regarding the game itself, as I mentioned, it’s been 10 years since the last Dragon Age installment, with Dragon Age: Inquisition released in 2014. I’m eagerly anticipating The Veilguard, as the story continues after Inquisition, and Bioware seems to be packing the game with a myriad of options and features, including lots of companions and yes, romancing them.

I’m also hopeful that Bioware has perfected the combat, which has been inconsistent in previous games. Based on recent showcases and since I missed out on checking the game during the Summer Game Fest, The Veilguard appears to have shifted to an action RPG style. And as you know, I thoroughly enjoy a good action RPG.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard will be released in Fall 2024 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and now, the Steam Deck.
