The registration numbers have been revealed for EVO 2024, the largest fighting game tournament held annually in North America. If you recall, eight games were revealed for this year’s event: Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8, Guilty Gear -Strive-, Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising, Street Fighter III: Third Strike, UNDER NIGHT IN-BIRTH II Sys:Celes, Mortal Kombat 1, and The King of Fighters XV. As many have probably already figured, Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8 came away with the mountain share of registrants.

  • Street Fighter 6 – 5,265
  • Tekken 8 – 4,646
  • Guilty Gear Strive – 2,058
  • Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising – 1,377
  • Street Fighter III 3rd Strike – 1,101
  • Under Night In-Birth II Sys: Celes – 785
  • Mortal Kombat 1 – 645
  • The King of Fighters XV – 375

Looking at these numbers, it’s very telling what the people want to play. Though, of course, Street Fighter 6 leads the way, thanks to that nice, fat payout. It’s also a fun fighter, despite some issues I have with the game. Of course, Tekken 8 would be up there, it’s the new hotness and it’s damned fun as well. I’m sure these are the highest numbers for any Tekken title at EVO, but please correct me if I’m wrong. Look for to some long pools, that’s for sure.

Surprisingly, Street Fighter III 3rd Strike refuses to die, and more people want to play it than Mortal Kombat 1 and KOFXV.  It looks troubling for the Mortal Kombat 1 scene, that’s for sure. If a 25-year-old game has more people wanting to play it than your fairly new game, that’s a big concern. While KOFXV’s time in the spotlight is all but over, thanks to Fatal Fury: City of Wolves The Outerhaven is just around the corner and is all but assured as being SNK’s next big fighter.

As for EVO 2024, everything is being changed. A new venue, bigger and better experience all around for everyone who’ll be in attendance. I’m quite jealous and wanted to attend, but you know how life goes and ruins the best-laid plans. Still, I can’t wait for everyone to take to Las Vegas and enjoy themselves, while we get some of the best fighting game action we’ll see all year. Seriously, I can’t wait.

EVO 2024 takes place from July 19-21, 2024, and will be held at the Las Vegas Convention Center, West Exhibition Hall. Are you looking forward to the event? I know I sure the heck am!
