Konami Producer Expresses Desire for Kojima to Return to Metal Gear

Konami producer Noriaki Okamura recently revealed his wish for Hideo Kojima to return to the Metal Gear franchise. During a Japanese live stream (thanks VGC), Okamura shared that working with Kojima and the original development team again would be a dream come true for him. However, he acknowledged that the decision is not his to make and that Kojima might not share the same sentiment.

Hideo Kojima, the creator of Metal Gear, parted ways with Konami in 2015 following the release of Metal Gear Solid 5. Despite their fallout, Okamura’s comments suggest a potential thaw in their relationship. He emphasized that many original team members are already involved in the upcoming Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater remake, which is being developed by Virtuos.

Okamura stated that although he would love to reunite with Kojima, he understands that people have moved on to new projects. Kojima, for instance, is busy with Death Stranding 2, a new Xbox game, and a PlayStation IP, among other projects. Despite this, Okamura assured fans that Kojima and the original team will be credited in the new remake.

The Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater remake is expected to release next year. Okamura and his team are committed to delivering a faithful recreation of the classic game, even without Kojima’s direct involvement.

Konami has previously confirmed that Kojima is not involved in the remake, but the company remains hopeful for future collaborations. For now, the focus is on making the best possible game with the current team.
