Five New Features to Try in Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance

By Bryan ApplegateJune 2, 2024

With the upcoming launch of Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance looming, Shin Megami Tensei 5 (Vanilla edition) will soon be delisted from the Switch Eshop. With that in mind, the expanded Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance edition will add new features and new demons for you to try out.

Shin Megami Tensei 5

But, just in case you’re unfamiliar with Shin Megami Tensei V, here’s a spoiler-free synopsis.

What is Shin Megami Tensei V About?

Shin Megami Tensei V was originally released for Nintendo Switch in 2021. The game puts players in control of a Tokyo high school student who finds himself in a different apocalyptic version of the city ruled by Lucifer, who killed his universe’s YHVH. Before he is killed by hostile demons, he is saved by a mysterious being who merges with him to form a Nahobino, a powerful being that is neither human nor demon.

The new Vengeance edition of SMT 5 includes all previous DLC from the vanilla game edition. It is set to release 1 week before the initially announced release date.

With that, here are the 5 things you should look forward to trying out in SMT 5: Vengeance.

Number 5: African Mythology Demons Join up in Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance

SMT 5: Vengeance introduces a few new demons, some of which are from never-before-seen African Mythologies, such as the Dragon Nyami Nyami (Pictured above).

Number 4: Additional DLC (Digital Deluxe Edition Exclusive)

DIGITAL DELUXE EDITION
Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance Digital Deluxe Edition Details shown

Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance’s Digital Deluxe Edition includes ADDITIONAL non-base game DLC. Regular edition owners will have to purchase this content separately, most likely.
It contains the following additional content:

  • “2 Sacred Treasure Sets” DLC (*Pre-order Bonus)
  • DLC – Mitama Dance of Wealth – Increases the spawn rate of “Saki Mitama,” demons that drop items that can be sold for Macca.
  • DLC – Mitama Dance of EXP – Increases the spawn rate of ”Kushi Mitama,“ demons that drop items that give the protagonist EXP, and “Ara Mitama,” demons that drop items that give ally demons EXP.
  • DLC – Mitama Dance of Miracles – Increases the spawn rate of “Nigi Mitama,” demons that drop items that give the protagonist Glory, points needed to learn new Miracles.
  • Demon Subquest – Sakura Cinders of the East – Additional content that will grant access to the subquest “Sakura Cinders of the East”.
In this quest, players will be able to take on “Konohana Sakuya”, and even recruit her should they prove victorious.
  • Demon Subquest – Holy Will and Profane Dissent – Additional content that will grant access to the subquest “Holy Will and Profane Dissent”.
In this quest, players will be able to take on “Dagda” (Primary Antagonist from Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse), and even recruit him should they prove victorious.

Number 3: The “Canon of Vengeance” Storyline in Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance

r/TwoBestFriendsPlay - SMTV: Vengeance will have story changes

The Canon of Vengeance storyline is a completely new path found exclusively in this new version of SMT V. In the Canon of Vengeance, you meet a new character named Yoko Hiromine, a mysterious girl who also has the power to fight demons.

Number 2: Improved Accessibility to Gameplay

When ATLUS says “Improved Gameplay”, the gameplay is typically improved with more field navigational capabilities, New explorable areas, improved Combat system, and new music. In addition, SMT V owners can transfer 3 demons from the SMT V Save Data to V: Vengeance.

Number 1: Recruitable Demi-Fiend in Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance!!

Yep, Remember how in Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse’s DLC “Messiahs in the Diamond Realm” quest, you got to command The Hero from SMT1, Aleph from SMT II, Demi-FIend from SMT III, and Flynn from SMT IV in a fight a against a full-power Stephen Hawking? Have you ever wondered what they would be like as permanent party members? If so, then boy, oh boy, do I have good news for you! The Demi-Fiend from SMT III is now RECRUITABLE in Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance after beating him in his boss battle!!

That’s my list of five new features you should try (not in that particular order). What do you think? Is there a feature you think I overlooked? Let me know down below, and look forward to more Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance coverage from me and the rest of the Outerhaven team as the game launches in two weeks.

Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance is scheduled to be released on June 21, 2024, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Windows Store and Steam.
