Nintendo Has Acquired Shiver Entertainment

By Todd BlackMay 20, 2024
Nintendo

In recent years, one of the “biggest trends” among top-tier gaming companies has been to gobble up other studios to “bolster their rosters” and produce more games. However, as Sony, Microsoft, The Embracer Group, and others have shown, that can backfire heavily. Nintendo has been one of the few holdouts of this. Instead of buying companies, they either just buy a stake in them or only get companies they feel can truly help them in the long run. To that end, The Big N has announced the acquisition of Shiver Entertainment.

As you can see below, they are the people who ported a couple of “interesting games” to the Nintendo Switch in the last year or so:

At first, this might seem foolish, as the port of MK1 was one of the most hated things gamers had ever seen due to the terrifying downgrade of graphical quality. However, the reason for that might have been that they didn’t have the backing or time to make it better. As such, Nintendo getting them could spell an uptick in quality.

Plus, this could mean that Nintendo wants to handle big third-party titles “in-house,” indicating to gamers that things will be more like Persona 5 Royal or Nier Automata on Switch…or its successor…
