Street Fighter 6: Character BGM Switching forthcoming

By Kevin KellyMay 20, 2024

Capcom announced that Street Fighter 6 will be getting Character BGM switching with legacy tracks. Using either currency system will allow players to pick out their favorites to jam…err, fight to, in the Audio Tab from the Battle Settings. The Street Fighter Twitter has a preview of what this will sound like.

Find your rhythm with new Character BGM Settings in the Audio tab where you can change which track plays during a fight!

Music throughout Street Fighter history is available for purchase with Drive Tickets or Fighter Coins – all packaged by series. Coming with the Akuma Update! pic.twitter.com/02fAF6mx4O

From the look of things, players can choose scores from titles such as:

  • Street Fighter II
  • Street Fighter III: New Generation
  • Street Fighter IV
  • Street Fighter V
  • Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers
  • Super Street Fighter II Turbo
  • Street Fighter Alpha
  • Street Fighter Alpha 2
  • Street Fighter III: 2nd Impact
  • Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike
  • Street Fighter Alpha 3

The logo list seems to focus on the main franchise titles, so expecting any crossover titles, such as Marvel Vs. Capcom, Capcom Fighting Jam, Capcom Vs. SNK, Street Fighter x Tekken, or even Street Fighter EX, would probably be out of the question. Other versions of Street Fighter IV and Street Fighter V are also not accounted for from the look of the list. This could be implied that their tracks are also included. Whether the choices are locked to stage BGMs from those games is also unknown.

I’m already excited to see that 2nd Impact has made the cut. Hugo’s Bottoms Up would probably be on the Zangief stage for me. The new feature will be a part of the Akuma update this week. Pricing on either end has yet to be revealed.

Other fighting game franchises have made legacy music available in their current iterations during bouts. Tekken 8 and King of Fighters XV do similar things per stage. Tekken 8’s extends to the other parts of the game, including online lobbies, menus, and more.

Street Fighter 6 is available on PlayStation 4 | 5, Xbox Series X | S, and Steam.
