Fatal Fury: City Of The Wolves Preecha High Level Gameplay Revealed

By Kevin KellyMay 7, 2024

With SNK providing hands-on of it’s upcoming fighting title, Youtuber NeoGeoNow has taken their Evo Japan Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves footage and brought it to YouTube and provided some deep dives about what he saw. Their first run is on newcomer Muay Thai fighter, Preecha.

According to NeoGeoNow, Preecha has a few confirmations of how Just Defense works, which requires players to press backward to block just as they are getting hit. Over the years, aerial guarding has been taken out of many 2D fighting games, with both parrying or in this game shows, the new Just Defense mechanic, ending up replacing them.

In this video, we can see Preecha perform this to secure a victory. The Preecha player favors the S.P.G. or Selective Potential Gear, which is a mechanic that debuted in Garou: Mark of the Wolves, is available at the start, gives back life per hit, and access to Rev Blows. Using it as a last resort seems to be risky enough.  Preecha also implements the new push guard called Hyper Defense. The distance it gives doesn’t overextend akin to the Marvel Vs. Capcom series’ style provides more cushion for the franticness.

Preecha’s strings give us some ideas as to how her normals feel. The moves are pretty medium speed as Preecha runs a bit of pressure game. Preecha has a move that seems to absorb fireballs and cause a knockdown on hit. This could be her Rev Blow activated since it was on at the time. Her cancel moves and breaks look fun. There is a solid 10 hit high damage combo, also. Her Tornado based moves are also a hint to her teacher’s signature fireballs. Preecha’s Hidden DM is seen here, and so are her two other Gear DMs.

Hello, Fatal Fury Joe?!

One of Preecha’s launchers / anti-airs does resemble Joe Higashi‘s Tiger Kick. Since Joe is confirmed to be in this game, some speculations are towing in as to how Joe will play. There can be two Muay Thai fighters in one fighting game. On a side note, the Rush counter animations look smooth and are a stellar callback to Mark of The Wolves’ style for this UI.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves launches in early 2025, and while which platform the game is going to be available hasn’t been announced, it’s safe to assume it will be playable on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
