One of Akuma’s Moves Can’t be Performed with Street Fighter IV’s Modern Controls

By Kevin KellyMay 1, 2024

With Akuma / Gouki’s Gameplay trailer out in the wild for Street Fighter VI, the Master of the Supreme Fist’s new moveset is also available to peruse today. Surprisingly, one of his signature moves is unavailable for Modern players. The infamous Shun Goku Satsu is not shown on the Modern control set. The move seems to be missing on the Modern controls. Shun Goku Satsu was Akuma’s first move to be introduced in Super Street Fighter 2 as he rains a heaping amount of damage in the cover of darkness. Unlike previous games before 6, Shun Goku Satsu is now a Level 3 Critical Art. 25% of Akuma’s health bar needs to be left inorder to pull it off.

Depending on the game, the kanji of Heaven(天) would appear on his back, with his opponent laid out after taking significant damage. After the series went 2.5D, the move stayed the same, but the presentation went to nearly ridiculous heights. Would this be stating that the move is only meant for Classic users? The move is usually difficult to incorporate into combo strings because of timing. Perhaps this will change once Akuma appears on May 22, 2024.

UPDATE:
The move would need to be done as it would be in the Classic control set minus the directional forward button press. No directional inputs.

FYI: In the Modern Control Command List, you can press R3 to switch to Manual Controls to see which special moves can still be performed with manual inputs in Modern.
