By Josh PiedraApril 24, 2024

Abrams ComicArts has announced a new imprint called Kana that will be geared at publishing manga. The focus will be English translations of Japanese and French-based manga for the U.S. market with an adult demographic that focuses on genres and characters that are not suitable for children.

Kana has the ambitious goal of wanting to publish 40-60 titles per year in paperback which will include individual issues of ongoing series.

The first six titles have been announced and are as follows:

  • Scars by Brandon Arias
  • Leviathan by Shiro Kuroi
  • Manhole by Tetsuya Tsutsui
  • Silence by Yoann Vomiere
  • Eden of Witches by Yumeji
  • Space Punch by ZD

The new imprint is headed up by Rodolphe Lachat, Vice President and Publisher of Abrams ComicArts, and will comprise of five employees. Despite the small staff, all other divisions and resources of Abrams ComicArts will be at Kana’s disposal while the brand grows.

Kana looks to honor Japanese publishing styles by creating manga with dust jackets, signature color pages, and high-quality paper. One of their main goals is to celebrate the art of manga rather than playing into the trends.

At this time, it is not known with the new imprint will launch or what other titles they plan to publish.
