Double Dragon 3 Characters Return in Double Dragon Gaiden Sacred Reunion DLC

By Keith MitchellMarch 27, 2024
Double Dragons Gaiden - Sacred Reunion New Characters

It wasn’t that long ago that we revealed that Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons would receive the Sacred Reunion DLC that adds online co-op, new upgrades, new modes, and a new character. Thanks to an update from the developer, we’re happy to reveal more info about the upcoming DLC and the names of the two other characters that will be included in it: Sonny Lee and Chin Sei Mei.

Fans and veterans of Double Dragon will likely remember these characters from the NES  and Arcade versions of Double Dragon 3: The Sacred Stones and Double Dragon IV (which wasn’t good; don’t play it). In this upcoming update, they will join the other DD3 character, Ranzou. Interestingly, Sonny Lee, who doesn’t exist in the Double Dragon canon, is playable. Especially since he was just a color palette swap in Double Dragon 3: The Rosetta Stone if another person picked a Lee brother while Billy and Jimmy were already being played. In the DLC, it appears he has a new moveset, and isn’t just a clone, this time around. It’s really cool that Secret Base, the developer of the game, did this.

All three of their new characters will be playable across all modes of Double Dragon Gaidene: Rise of the Dragons, and it will be nice to play with them again—especially Chin, who was a beast in DD3.

Honestly, I thought I played all there was for this game, but with this update and online co-op, I’ll be diving back into it as soon as the DLC is released. I hope to see you online as well.

The Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons DLC, Sacred Reunion, will be released on April 4th, 2024, as a free update for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and PC. While you wait for the DLC to be released, check out our review of the game, which we called one of the best Double Dragons games in a long time.
