Japanese Police Officer Gets Reprimanded For Playing Nintendo Switch On Duty

Nintendo Switch

How about a “yes, this really happened” story to lighten up your day? Sound fun? Good! As I’ve happily said on the Nintendo Entertainment Podcast and beyond, the Nintendo Switch is the best console out there currently, and it’s not even close. It’s got one of the best gaming libraries ever, and it’s one of the best-selling systems of all time. However, even I would tell you that there’s a “time and a place” to enjoy the system and its game. One time NOT to enjoy it? When you’re on duty as a cop!

As revealed by Nintendo Everything, an officer within Japan’s Tenri Police Station would go to the break room when there “were few incidents” and would play the Nintendo Switch instead of working. To be clear, he wasn’t on break; he was on duty…and playing the Switch. Over the course of a few months, he played the Switch for over 17 hours while on duty, which might not seem like a lot, but given how quickly things can go wrong? That’s a lot of time.

As punishment, he was not only reprimanded but also docked pay based on the hours he spent gaming instead of working. As I said, there is time and a place, everyone.
