Tekken 8 Will Have an In-Game Currency Driven Tekken Shop

By Kevin KellyFebruary 20, 2024

Tekken 8 will feature a microtransaction-driven store named “Tekken Shop,” slated for availability from now until March. Revealed in today’s livestream, the shop will offer nostalgic Tekken outfits for characters. Not a fan of Tekken 7’s killer bride assassin Nina? No problem. You can now acquire her classic purple camo combat suit from previous entries, including Tekken Tag Tournament 2. Avatars will also receive themed clothing options, such as Reina’s jacket.

Access to the store will be facilitated through avatar lobbies by interacting with an employee. Prices are anticipated to be reasonable, with purchases made using “Tekken Coins.” Cross-platform commerce will not be permitted; purchases will be tied to the ecosystem in which they were made.

Uniquo will have a collaboration with Tekken. While the items are free, the process of getting them will still be in the store. This is to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the series. Some of these are inspired by their current collaboration that you can actually wear.

Compared to other fighting game releases in the last year, Tekken 8 launched without this intact. Street Fighter 6 and Mortal Kombat 1 have brought out an In-Game price shop right from the jump. Some fan reactions have not been favorable as prices for even a holiday themed finishing move have been questionable. Tekken 8 itself already has 4 costumes per character on launch and coin-based stores to get things from. Sure – the original items from previous games aren’t included, but there is enough to suit up with customization-wise. Arcade Quest gives some drops that can be gained by fighting and earning coins.

Tekken 8 is available for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam). Check out our review of Tekken 8, which we think is the best fighting game that has been revealed these past few months.
