In just a few short days, the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) 2024 will kick off, and with it will be bunches of new electronics for us to ogle over. MSI, a popular PC and accessories manufacturer, has just teased on the MSI Gaming Twitter page that this portable/handheld gaming PC will be unveiled at CES 2024.

According to MSI, this is referred to as a”new breed of MSI Dragon.” MSI hasn’t shared any specifics about this new gaming device but showed a few pictures. One picture in particular shows off the front of the device, where we can make out two analog sticks, four front-facing buttons, and the screen, which looks a bit later than that on the ROG Ally and Oriignal Steam Deck.

As someone who’s jumped head-first into portable/handheld PC gaming over the past two years, I’m interested in seeing what MSI brings to the table. However, there are already many handheld devices, such as the ASUS ROG Ally and Lenovo Legion GO, not to mention scores of Ayaneo and various other companies that have produced Windows-based gaming devices. For whatever this is that MSI is working to stand out, it has to either bring something unique to the party or do what the other devices do, but better. All of which is something we won’t know until it is shown off.

However, I have a few wants for this device: A 7.4-inch OLED screen that supports 120Hz + VRR, a better battery, and something that uses either AMD’s Zen 5 or Intel’s Core Ultra. However, in all likelihood, this will be running the same AMD Zen 4/RDNA 3 AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme that is powering the Ally and Legion GO. As for the OS, it’s too early to speculate if this is Windows-based or runs a favor of Linux like the Steam Deck.

Regardless, having more companies releasing portable handheld PC gaming devices means more competition and possibly lower prices. I’m looking forward to seeing what MSI plans to show us. CES 2024 will run from Tuesday, January 9, until Friday, January 12, 2024.
