After finishing Marvel’s What If…? Season 2, I thought that the final episode had done a great job tying the What If…? universe with the fantastic Loki Season 2, and I thought to myself that there’s definitely going to be a Season 3. Except, I didn’t know that Marvel had already revealed that What If…? Season 3 was already being worked on.
Following the finale of Marvel’s What If…? Season 2, a nearly three-minute clip featuring Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier and Red Guardian traveling through an unknown location, appearing to be fugitives, was released. It appears to be a take on The Dukes of Hazzard, only to be stopped by Laurence Fishburne’s Doctor Bill Foster, who appears to be a lawman of sorts. Failing to convince Bill Foster of their intentions, Bucky fires a round at Bill Foster that barely misses him, thanks to Red putting the pedal to the metal, and a chase for the pair is on.
Sadly, that’s where the clip ends, with a “To be continued…” flashing across the screen.
It’s an interesting pairing of the two, especially since both characters are connected with the upcoming MCU Thunderbolts movie. Familiar faces such as Yelena Belova, US Agent, and Taskmaster will accompany them. I doubt this clip has anything to do with that movie, but with What If…?, one can never tell. Given that we’re already seeing a sneak peek of the third season, I have a feeling we’ll see it sooner than we did with Season 2, especially since the end of the clip states that Marvel’s What If…? Season 3 will be streaming soon.
Speaking of Marvel’s What If…? Season 2, we thought it was a much stronger outing than Marvel’s What If…? Season 1, as mentioned in our recent review. So much so that there wasn’t a bad episode in the bunch; though some were stronger than others, my favorites were definitely What If…The Avengers Assembled in 1602?, What If…Strange Supreme Intervened?, and What If…Kahhori Reshaped the World?
Now that we know about Season 3, I have to wonder how the new season will fare now that A.C. Bradley has revealed she has moved on from Marvel. Hopefully, whoever takes over the writing can follow in her footsteps. Season 2 was full of standout episodes, and I’d love to see Season 3 be as good or better.

There’s no mention when Marvel’s What If…? Season 3 will air on Disney Plus. But you can be sure I’ll count the seconds until it does.
