Most Exciting Game Releases of September 2023

Most Exciting Game Releases September 2023

August has been another great month of video game releases and has seen releases such as the acclaimed Sea of Stars, which you can read in our review, However,  August has run its course and now we look towards the next packed month. What are the most exciting releases coming up in September? Below is my list in release date order.

Starfield

Of course, it would be nearly impossible to talk about September game releases without discussing Starfield. The upcoming Sci-Fi RPG from Bethesda. This is perhaps my most anticipated game of the whole year, I love the idea of a Fallout-style game in space. As someone who found Fallout 4 to be slightly disappointing back in 2015. With anticipation comes, of course, increased expectations, especially with this being Bethesda Game Studios’ first release as a Microsoft first-party studio. Can it live up to the demands of RPG fans around the globe?

Find out when Starfield releases for Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Gamepass on September 1st for Premium Edition or Premium Upgrade owners. September 6th for Standard Edition and Gamepass Subs (without the premium upgrade DLC)

Baldur’s Gate 3

Alright, technically, Baldur’s Gate 3 has already been released on PC, but personally, I’m very excited for the console release of this seemingly phenomenal RPG. It’s a series that has passed me by until now, but I can’t wait to jump in. Let’s just hope it translates well to the console and doesn’t have too many technical issues!

Baldur’s Gate 3 releases for PlayStation 5 on September 6th, 2023. The game will also be released on Xbox Series X|S later this year.

Lies of P

The moment I heard Pinocchio and Souls-like I was in, everything I’ve seen from Lies of P looks fantastic. I suspect it will scratch the itch of many Bloodbourne fans. If you haven’t heard of this one, it’s definitely worth keeping an eye on.

Lies of P releases for Xbox One/Series, PS4/5, and PC on September 19th (available day one on Gamepass).

Mortal Kombat 1

It’s that time again! Mortal Kombat is back, and I can’t wait, to be clear, I’m not a hardcore fighting game fan, but I do enjoy them casually. Especially since NetherRealm has done a pretty good job with the story over the last few titles, in my opinion. I can’t wait to see what this soft reboot reset timeline of Mortal Kombat will bring along with it.

Mortal Kombat 1 releases for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, Switch, and PC on September 19th (September 14th for Premium Edition).

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty

As someone who enjoyed Cyberpunk 2077 and was lucky enough to have minimal bugs at launch, I can’t wait to jump into Phantom Liberty. The paid-for expansion starring Idris Elba in what seems like a spy thriller story that introduces a new, more dangerous part of Night City called Dogtown. Most importantly, this expansion does come with a host of system overhauls and updates, many of which will be free updates to the main game.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty releases for Xbox Series S/X, PS5, PC on September 26th.

I’ve listed five games, but in truth, I could have listed a few more. September traditionally is the start of the busiest time in video games, although this entire year has been hectic. These five games are my personal most anticipated coming up but with sports titles like EA FC (formerly FIFA) and NBA 2k also set to release, there are even more I’d like to play. This month, in particular, seems to have top titles releases in almost every genre, I’m not sure how anyone is going to afford to play everything they want to in September.

What releases are you most excited about in September? Will you be playing Starfield, Cyberpunk, or something else like The Crew Motorfest? Let us know in the comments or on social media. Don’t forget to look out for our reviews of many of these titles and more.

Jordan has been playing games since the age of six. This ignited a passion which initially led him towards game development before trying his hand in the realm of games media, starting in 2022. It turns out he's quite good at it, even if he doesn't always believe in himself. Now, just a few short years later, not only is Jordan a valued member of our staff here at The Outerhaven, but he also co-owns and helps to run Analog Stick Gaming.
