SEGA has been doing well by their blue blur recently, and many gamers are excited for the upcoming Sonic Superstars title that’ll take things back to its 2D roots, albeit with 3D graphics. Either way, the game looks fun and will feature some old friends and looks coming back to have a speedy time. At Gamescom today, SEGA dropped a new trailer for the game focusing on the multiplayer elements you can enjoy with friends. As you might expect, it’s going to be a wild ride.

First, as previously noted, you can do a 4-person co-op in Sonic Superstars, but now, they’ve unveiled a new “Battle Mode” where you’ll customize a character and face off against those same three friends. You can check out the full trailer below, and be sure to look at the special skins that they’re offering, as one of them is a true blast from the past.

The Sonic Team also revealed that Sonic Superstars now has a release date of October 17, 2023, and is available for pre-order (physically and digitally) for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, the Nintendo Switch, and PC. There are several editions of the game that can be purchased / pre-ordered, which include the standard and the digital deluxe editions.

Sonic Superstars – Standard Edition ($59.99 USD)

  • Base Game (Physical edition or Digital edition)
  • Free LEGO Sonic skin

Sonic Superstars – Digital Deluxe Edition ($69.99 USD)

  • Base Game (Digital Edition Only)
  • Sonic Rabbit Skin
  • LEGO Fun Pack
  • Mecha Sonic Parts for Battle Mode
  • Additional Menu Screen Wallpapers
  • Digital Artbook and Mini-Original Soundtrack
  • Free LEGO Sonic skin

Sadly, there’s no collector’s edition of Sonic Superstars and cool statue of anything like that. But still, at least we have a release date.
