The Tekken 8 CNT Still Being Played Has Frustrated Bandai Namco

Some eager Tekken 8 fans have upset Bandai Namco by playing the Tekken 8 Closed Network Test past the allotted testing window.

Over the past two weekends, Bandai Namco has hosted a Tekken 8 Closed Network Test over the past two weekends, first for the PlayStation 5, with the following weekend adding the Xbox Series X|S and PC. However, as of the last weekend of July, that test is over. Except, some eager Tekken 8 fans have found a way to bypass the restrictions and are still playing the game. As you can imagine, Bandai Namco isn’t too thrilled about this.

In a recent tweet on the Bandai Namco Esports Twitter (I refuse to call it X) account, the publisher has some harsh words for those who have hacked their way back into some Tekken 8 fun.

“We have noticed that some players have accessed the Tekken 8 Closed Network Test (CNT) and played the game beyond the Closed Test period. Such actions breach the terms of service and the Tekken World Tour Code of Conduct.” “Also, the unauthorized download or distribution of the game is illegal,” the statement says.

“Please note that any player found to have accessed the CNT without authorization may be deemed ineligible for the upcoming Tekken World Tour and other official tournaments,” continues the statement. “Your cooperation in preserving the fairness and competitive integrity of our competition is highly valued.”

Sadly, this is why we can’t have nice things. I get it; the Tekken 8 CNT was fun, not that I could participate in it, but we need to stop doing things like this. Otherwise, companies will either stop holding these tests or be super strict on who gains access to them.

This is the same crap that Capcom encountered with both the Street Fighter 5 and Street Fighter 6 betas on PC, and while I didn’t want to point the finger at the PC gaming crowd, we all know who is responsible here. We need these people to stop, or we’ll see companies go, “We’re officially done with hosting PC network tests or betas.” If that happens, then we’ll start seeing more people complain that PC gamers are being left out, but then we’ll only have those responsible for doing stuff like this to blame.

Speaking of which, we also recently had someone data mine the PC version of Tekken 8 and reveal all base characters that will be in the game. I’m sure BN wasn’t too thrilled about that, either. This revealed that there will be eight more characters to be released for the PC,  all of which were characters that have already appeared in the Tekken series.

As for Tekken 8’s release date, there’s no ETA on when we can expect to play the game. I suspect that we still won’t see the game being available for consoles and PC until late 2023 or early 2024.
