Hexworks Unveils Mighty Lords of the Fallen Gameplay Look

Hexworks, the gaming studio created by CI Games, has released an extended gameplay video for the upcoming dark fantasy Action RPG Lords of the Fallen.

This video clocks in at nearly 18 minutes, and it’s very meaty and possibly, spoiler-ish. So, if you plan on going in blind, maybe you don’t want to watch it. But me? I must have watched this trailer several times, and I have to say that this reminds me more of Dark Souls in comparison to the game’s predecessor

For those unfamiliar with the game, Lords of the Fallen has a unique gameplay mechanic, which is the game taking place in two worlds simultaneously. It’s unlike other games where you must take this trek to a different world. You’re playing in two worlds at once, and the only way to get to one is to die. That mechanic will make quests, and even boss fights more complicated yet interesting.

Did anyone else see that the combat and movement is nowhere as slow as its predecessor, the 2014 game of the same name, Lords of the Fallen. That game was slow, so we’re seeing leaps and bounds better now. I wish the weapon sounds were better, but this game is still a few months out, so that can improve.

One thing that stands out outside of the gameplay, that is, is the art direction. Everything shown in the trailer looks fantastic, from the gear designs to the enemies and landscapes. And while we’re just seeing one slice of the game, here’s to hoping this extends to the entire game.

Lastly, I’m glad that Hexworks has nailed the cooperative experience, which bothers me in Soulslike games. Here, players can summon other players into their world, and they’ll stay there. Deaths and all. The only way to get rid of another player is if you end the session or they leave on their own. None of this “oh, you died, seeya” nonsense, which I’ve complained about for years with some of my favorite Soulslike games.

Overall, I’d be lying if I didn’t say I’m looking forward to checking Lords of the Fallen when it drops. Trust me; I’ll be all over this game.

Lords of the Fallen will be released on October 13, 2023, for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
