How to Use External Controllers on the Asus ROG Ally

In this Asus ROG Ally guide, we explain how to get your external controllers working. There’s currently an issue that despite having them connected to the device using a dock, the controllers won’t work most of the time. While it’s supposed to be “plug and play,” it doesn’t always work as intended. This happens with all versions of the firmware that we know of.

For this guide, we’ll be using the Xbox Series controller, but the method also works with the DualShock and DualSense controllers.

The Asus ROG Ally is Asus’s first handheld gaming PC that supports a custom AMD Z1 Extreme CPU and GPU combo, with a 7-inch screen, 512GB of SSD storage, and 16GB of onboard RAM. So far, I’ve been enjoying mine. However, the experience hasn’t been perfect due to issues with the firmware and, more recently, problems with the SD card reader causing issues with MicroSD cards.
