Western Digital BLACK C50 Expansion Cards now available for Xbox Series X|S

It may have taken longer than many have wanted, but now there’s another player when it comes to the storage expansion cards for the Xbox Series X|S. Western Digital’s new WD_BLACK C50 expansion cards are now available for sale, and they come in 512GB and 1TB sizes.

Currently, the 1TB expansion card can be purchased on Best Buy’s website and the Western Digital store. I’m not sure why Best Buy doesn’t also have the 512GB variant, but I imagine they’ll have it eventually. The WD BLACK C50 Expansion Card is priced at $79.99 for the 500GB card and $149.99 for the 1TB.

So, there you have it. Instead of just having Seagate being the only company to produce the Xbox Series X|S expansion storage cards, Western Digital has entered the fray. Regardless, it is nice to see that another company is giving you options, and for being an IT guy, I always preferred WD over Seagate for reasons, but that also doesn’t mean I’m going to run out and purchase the new WD expansion cards.

Speaking of Seagate, the company has lowered the cost of its Xbox expansion cards. The Seagate 1tB now costs $149.99, the same as the newly released WD card, and its 2TB card is priced at $279.99, that’s $120 cheaper than what it cost when it was first launched.

I don’t know about paying $80 for a 512GB storage card; it seems more than it’s worth. At the same time, 500GB isn’t enough, especially with games over 100GB or more of space. It seems like a wasted effort, but at least there are more choices.
