PlayStation’s Remote-Play Handheld Device “Project Q” revealed

PlayStation 5 - Project Q Reveal Trailer _ PlayStation Showcase 2023 2

It’s been rumored for quite some time, but during the May 2023 PlayStation Showcase event, the company officially revealed “Project Q,” which is its internal name for its upcoming handheld remote-play device.

The device looks like a PlayStation 5 DualSense controller split in half, with an 8-inch screen attached to the middle. At first glance, the device looks unappealing. That said, it was mentioned that the design could and may change, so this might not be the final design for Project Q.

According to Jim Ryan, Project Q will allow gamers to play their PlayStation 5 games on the device over Wi-Fi, with the exception of PSVR games. Project Q is set to launch later in 2023.

However, the question of why this device exists still remains. With multiple controller add-ons for iPhone and Android phones, such as the Razer Kishi V2 or Backbone, as well as the ability to stream PlayStation 5 games via the PS Remote Play app to PC, Mac, iOS, and Android, why is this needed? Will PlayStation pull or gimp the app once Project Q gets released?
