The Story

The battle to save Sarara in Jigoku continues! Akiyama, Takaya, Fumi, and the Black Snake all have a plan. It involved overloading Sarara’s emotions and cause her to lose control… then strike when she is distracted. In the end, as one would guess, they accomplished their goal. Sarara is saved and offers up a rather interesting proposition. No sooner than she does, we are revisited by our favorite nutjob… Inoue!

Inoue claims to have seen the light and changed his ways. He asks to be the Genbu’s dog and, shockingly, Takaya accepts!? Well, that was certainly a turn of events.

The next step is to see the Sovereign of Jigoku. When they arrive, something that was hinted at earlier in the volume is revealed! With the hints that they gave, it was pretty easy to guess what the big reveal was but with the reveal, the end goal for this series has now become crystal clear. In addition, we got a shocking revelation when it comes to Kyutaro as well and what the Black Snake’s true goals are!

With the Jigoku arc over, the plans to head into our final battle are about to be laid out!

Characters

Oof… this is going to be a bit hard to talk about because all of the development in this volume are major spoilers.

I will just have to be as vague as possible but… we learned a lot about Kyutaro’s wish, the black snake’s wish, the silver snake’s wish, and the third snake’s wish. Yes… we learned that there are actually three snakes in the world but the snakes themselves can divide their whole into parts which are why there could be multiple “silver snakes.” Even if you devour the part, the main snake will still be alive somewhere. This also explains why the snakes always talk about being reborn or coming back to life. They are mere fragments of a whole snake.

Right now, I don’t think there is any indication that Kyutaro’s black snake is a part. I truly think he is the whole embodiment of the black snake. The Sovereign of Jigoku mentioned before that she had eaten “many silver snakes” which suggests that the silver snake had divided itself many times over so there still could be a number of parts out there. In fact, that is one of the end goals of the series is to kill all of the silver snakes along with the third snake.

Speaking of the third snake, we also learn what the true nature of Jigoku is along with a bit more information on the casket. I’ll leave it at that.

We were given some glimpses of development when it came to Fumi but I think there is a lot that the series is holding back on. I’m sure once our final battles approach, we’ll learn more about Fumi and why she was chosen by The White Queen.

Overall Thoughts

This was one hell of an information dump. A lot of things are beginning to make sense in the series and we now know who the big evil is that must be overcome. The Black Snake trusts Kyutaro and Fumi with her White Queen powers to get the job done… even going so far as to admit that they were a lot stronger than he took them for. For the Black Snake to put his trust in them, that says a lot!

As for the third snake reveal… I kind of guessed who it was from the first time they hinted at it. In fact, I had some suspicions all along and I was proven right! It will be interesting to see how they battle the third snake but I’m guessing that they will chase down and eliminate the remaining parts of the silver snake first. That should extend our content out a little bit before we reach the end.

I know that the series announced that the series approaching its climax back in November 2021 and here we are in May of 2023 and a final volume still hasn’t been announced so your guess is as good as mine when it comes to how much longer this series will last but with the way things are going, we are definitely heading into the final arc. It all depends on how long this arc will play out or if it’ll get rushed. I’m guessing this series will end in the 20-25 volume range but that’s just me.

We’ll see! Until then.. .onward!
