How to get the paraglider in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Tears of the Kingdom has a strange opening. It doesn’t give you the paraglider in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom straight away, unlike Breath of the Wild, and you’re forced to focus on machinery and climbing instead to get around. Thankfully, the game eventually introduces you to the paraglider, but you’ll need to finish some main quests to get to it.

Here’s exactly when you get the paraglider in Tears of the Kingdom.

When do you get the paraglider in Tears of the Kingdom?

To get the paraglider in Tears of the Kingdom, you’ll first need to land within the grounds of Hyrule. When you start the game, you’re tasked with finding four shrines around the Great Sky Island. Once you finish three of them, you’ll head over to the Temple of Time, and then you have to finish one last temple nearby the Room of Awakening.

Once these tasks are completed and briefly interact with Zelda, you can then leap down to the surface. You’ll have to dive into a lake or a river to survive the fall, however. While gravity would certainly kill Link in our world, he’s perfectly fine as his head pops out of the water.

So what’s next? Head over to the Hyrule Castle and speak with Purah. She’s found in an encampment south of the castle called Lookout Landing. She’ll welcome you back with open arms. You can find her on the second floor of a tent north of the location.

Before you get the Paraglider in Tears of the Kingdom, you’ll need to continue the “Crisis at Hyrule Castle” quest and speak with Captain Hoz. He’s located at the First Gatehouse. Run on over to Hyrule Castle, and begin your ascent up its path. The first door you come across is closed, so work your way around the locked area by climbing to the right. Continue forwards, meeting the soldiers searching for Zelda. They’re shocked to see Link in one piece.

Keep going up the path until you find the First Gatehouse. Then climb up to the second floor of the building, where you’ll find Captain Hoz. While you’re speaking to him, you and the soldiers notice Zelda floating in the sky and disappearing in a yellow light. Once this occurs, head back to the Lookout Landing to report to Purah. You should fast-travel to the nearby Kyononis Shrine if you are able to spot it on the way up.

Once you get back to Lookout Landing, Purah will tell you to rest up. Follow her directions and speak to the soldier Scorpis in the middle of the square. He’ll let you into the Emergency Shelter, which will give you a place to sleep. Rest up at one of the beds on the right side and wait “Until Morning.” A cutscene should play as Link’s asleep. Once the Hero of Time has his shut-eye, go up and meet Purah at the big Skyview Tower. When the conversation has finished, you’ll finally be given a Paraglider in Tears of the Kingdom and be sent to the sky.

Enjoy!
