Japanese Gamers Want Splatoon and Xenoblade Chronicles Anime

By Todd BlackDecember 28, 2022
Splatoon 3 Review, Xenoblade Chronicles, Splatfest

Anime adaptations of video game properties are more numerous than you may think, but they’ve never been as “booming” as the live-action adaptations in Hollywood and beyond. And we all know that track record. But that being said, there are more anime adaptations of video games coming, like with the upcoming Nier Automata series. But recently, “Anime! Anime!” did a poll asking gamers about the gaming series that they’d personally love to see become an anime in some form. The top two franchises at the end of the poll were Splatoon and Xenoblade Chronicles.

We’ve actually talked about potential Nintendo anime in the past via the Nintendo Entertainment Podcast, and we’re happy to see that many gamers (over 1600 in the poll) want to see something with these franchises happen in the anime space.

Splatoon and Xenoblade Chronicles would make interesting shows if done properly. For example, the anime about the squid kids could add more personality and story to the world beyond its “creation.” Or even just make it a fun original story series about groups of Inklings and Octariants battling it out in Turf Wars and beyond.

As for the beloved RPG, they have four games that they could adapt into anime, and fans would likely love that. Many have said the series is an “anime-style story.” Its visuals also line up with anime in certain cases.

Whether Nintendo does this or not is up to them, but it’s nice to think about it!
