Hideki Kamiya Speaks On Bayonetta Origins

Many of us were surprised when Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon was announced at The Game Awards. Mainly because the title looked so different from the previous entries featuring Bayonetta. Plus, we’d be playing as her childhood form in Cereza. Many were hoping that PlatinumGames would come forward and clear things up on what to expect from the game, and thankfully, they did that. Specifically, Hideki Kamiya went onto the official website for PlatinumGames and made a blog post about the prequel.

One of the things he pointed out is the game is being made by some “young bucks” in the company:

“Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon is a something very new for PlatinumGames, made by a team of young ambitious developers with just a few vets to help along the way. Abebe Tinari spearheads the effort as a first-time Director and Tomoko Nishii brings the game’s unique visual style to life as Art Director.”

Another thing he noted is the game won’t be the action-filled romp that the previous titles were, and that’s by design:

“This game is a brand-new gameplay experience, different from anything in the Bayonetta games so far. We created Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon with the hope that fans of the series to date will enjoy this unique take on their favorite badass heroine, and also endeavor to deliver an unforgettable experience to players who may not be comfortable with action games… or even players who are unfamiliar with the Bayonetta series in the first place!”

A big thing that Hideki Kamiya commented on was the demon Cheshire, whom we first met in Bayonetta 3 (read our review!). He said that Cheshire has “wandered” into the human world and eventually meets Cereza. The two will have to work together via a “one-of-a-kind experience” to ensure they make it through the magical forest they find themselves in.

The game is going to be an interesting one when it arrives on March 17th on Nintendo Switch.
