Mega Man X8 Receives Fan-Made 16-Bit Demake

By Josh PiedraSeptember 5, 2022

During the annual SAGE event (Sonic Amateur Games Expo), it was announced that Capcom’s Mega Man X8 would be receiving a 16-bit demake!

The demake isn’t going to be a 1:1 copy with just SNES graphics. The team is looking to provide a classic SNES Mega Man X experience with this title. Because of such, things in the original game such as medals, the shop, retry chips, and intermissions will not be present.  X will also be the only playable character. Axl will not be present and Zero will merely show up from time to time.

Other changes include turning the Jakob Elevator into an actual stage ala Boomer Kuwanger, no neutral armor, and any armor piece you collect appearing on your character one at a time just like in the first three original X games.  The auto scroll stages are being reworked to function more like Overdrive Ostrich’s stage from X2, and more.

You can check out a collection of screenshots below from this work-in-progress:

The official site has a progress update and a playable demo for you to try!
