CI Games Returns with The Lords of the Fallen, but this a Reboot?

By Keith MitchellAugust 23, 2022
The Lords of the Fallen

During Gamescom Opening Night, we got a look at The Lords of Fallen, which likely has confused some fans of the original game. Titled, The Lords of the Fallen, the game looks to succeed where the original game failed. Whether this is either Lords of the Fallen 2 or a reboot, has yet to be answered.

I’ll be honest, I tried to like the first game, but it was broken, not very fun, and clearly, there were issues when you could simply spam one more to beat the game. So when the follow-up was announced, I was hoping things would get addressed, and the series would be on the right track. Except, things didn’t play out that way. Instead, Lords of the Fallen 2’s development cycle had found itself in limbo.

First, the publisher of the game, CI Games, had severed its ties with Deck13 Interactive, the original developer. Then CI Games went to work and created its own development studio, HexWorks. During this process, HexWorks went to work in a new direction for the follow-up. Now, we have The Lords of the Fallen, which will also be developed with Unreal Engine 5. It now looks to be a next-gen title only and has dropped the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The Lords of Fallen will still be set in a Dark Fantasy setting and looks to retain the same “Soulslike” quality that the first game possessed.

The Lords of the Fallen Key Features:

  • A vast, interconnected world – over five times larger than the original game
  • An expansive RPG experience – a huge roster of NPCs to meet and stories to uncover
  • Tactical combat – a fast, fluid, and challenging combat system
  • Devastating magic – turn the tide of battle with spells and character buffs
  • Uninterrupted online co-op – explore a vast and dark world together
  • Define your legend – full character customization and progression

The Lords of the Fallen is in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
