Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed Will Arrive Just in Time for Halloween

By Andrew AgressAugust 19, 2022
Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed

It’s always nicely on theme when horror-themed games arrive around Halloween. Fittingly, Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed will arrive on October 18th. The asymmetrical multiplayer title based on the film franchise will see four players go up against one other. Of course, the team of four consists of the Ghostbusters themselves, while the solo player takes on the role of a ghost who needs busting.

IllFonic, the developer and publisher of the title, previously created other asymmetrical games.  The studio developed Friday the 13th: The Game and Predator: Hunting Grounds. This makes Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed the studio’s third title based on a popular horror film property. And with events of the game will occur after those of Ghostbusters: Afterlife, with the relatively recent release of the film.

For this entry, the players taking on the roles of the Ghostbusters can use classic gadgets from the movies such as the Particle Thrower and the Ghost Trap. As for the ghost, the player controlling them can teleport and stun their opponents, like in previous IllFonic titles. But this time around, sliming opponents is also an option for the ghost with the most.

These types of games are usually best played online with friends, but Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed will also offer the option for a single-player mode, with AI bots filling out the other roles.  Players will have the option to play both online or offline as well.

Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed will arrive on October 18th for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and for PC via the Epic Games Store. Retailing for $39.99, people who preorder will receive advance access to Slimer, a custom Particle Thrower and Proton Pack, and some clothing cosmetics.  And once the game arrives, you can finally answer the burning question: “Who ya gonna call?”
