Splatoon 3 Direct Recap – New Maps, New Modes, New Faces!

By Todd BlackAugust 10, 2022
Splatoon 3, Splatoon 3 Direct

When the announcement came of a Splatoon 3 Direct, and that it would be 30-minutes long, fans of the franchise were no doubt excited as they wanted to see what new info would be dropped. Well, the answer was…a lot. Because we got more than a tease of what’s to come not just with the launch of the game, or the pre-launch, but the future going across two years.

Easily the biggest thing to start was the confirmation of all that was coming back in the upcoming game, as the Splatoon 3 Direct emphasized that Turf Wars would still be the dominant play type, but others like Rainmaker, Tower Run and others would join in the fun as well. There are even new types of modes in competitive play like Anarchy Mode where you can play alone or in groups to improve your rank. Naturally, weapons and abilities are back, and there are a few new types of weapons to use like with bows and katanas. As well as new Special Weapons that’ll surely mix things up.

Speaking of mixing things up, customization in this game is going to be through the roof here, as you’ll be able to not just customize your Inkling or Octoling now, you’ll be able to customize your nameplate in battles, your emotes when you win, and even have your own locker to decorate!

Still not enough? We got a deeper look at Salmon Run: The Next Wave, and not only are we getting new Boss Salmonids, we’re getting an end battle to boot! As well as something called the “Big Run” later on where the Salmonids will invade the Splatlands!

Another key addition to the game is reveal of the new “face of the game” via Deep Cut. They’ll be breaking down the news every time you arrive in the title, and their 3-part crew is important because from now on, Splatfests are going to be 3-way tangos! Including having a new battle type in them where three teams will face off on the same stage!

Other details we got were on the 12 stages to start the game (with more to come), details on the story mode (which is apparently going to end the current story saga), DLC and Amiibo announcements, and more! The Splatoon 3 Direct is viewable below, don’t miss out on any of the updates so you can enjoy the game on September 9th, or get the pre-release splat fest on August 27th!
