During the Capcom Showcase, it was revealed that the long-awaited DLC for Resident Evil Village would be headed to the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Stadia on October 28, 2022.

Entitled Winter’s Expansion, this DLC includes a new story called Shadows of Rose, which will continue where Resident Evil Village left off. Set 10 years in the future, the daughter of Ethan, Rosemary Winters, has grown up but is struggling with terrifying powers. In search of a way to break free from her curse, Rose enters the consciousness of the Megamycete, according to Capcom.

In addition to the campaign, the DLC will also include several new features, including Mercenaries Additional Orders and a Third-Person Mode.

Mercenaries Additional Order will bring arcade-like action shooting experience returns with additional stages and new playable characters such as a fully prepared Chris Redfield, Karl Heisenberg, who wields a giant hammer and possesses the ability to control magnetic forces, and Alcina Dimitrescu, who is over nine-feet tall.

While the Third-person mode is an interesting one, as this will allow players to play the main story of Resident Evil Village and the DLC from the third-person perspective. It’s also something that has been available for the PC version of the game, thanks to the 3rd person mod. Which was how the original Resident Evil games were played, so it’s good to see this being brought back. If you’ve put off playing Resident Evil Village because you didn’t like the first-person perspective, maybe the return of the original perspective will change your mind.

Resident Evil Village Gold Edition will contain both the base game and the upcoming Winter’s Expansion DLC and will be released on October 28th, 2022, as well.

Lastly, Capcom has revealed that they will be releasing updates to the Resident Evil 2 remake, Resident Evil 3 remake, and Resident Evil 7, for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. These updates will provide a graphical bump up to 4K, with Ray Tracing, high framerate, and 3D audio support. The PC patch has already been released, while the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S update will come at a later date. For those who already own these titles on the PS4 and Xbox One, you’ll be able to update to the next-gen versions for free.
