Xbox Please Not Again. Not Another Outage. News Round-up #22

By Keith MitchellMay 10, 2022
News Round Up Episode 22

In the latest Gaming News Round-up, Matt and Scott discuss the recent Xbox outage, that lasted for over three days. An outage that prevented everyone who owned a digital Xbox title from being able to play them on the Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S. And while the outage is over, the effects are far from gone, and has once again sparked the debate on if digital media is a future that gamers want.

Is it time for Xbox to change its DRM practices? Should they adopt a policy similar to Valve’s Steam, that allows games to play most of the purchased games offline if they choose to? Something has to give, or this is going to be a thorn in Xbox’s side for quite some time. Sadly, this echos the recent outage that PlayStation experienced that bumped off the PS4 and PS5 versions of Gran Turismo 7 — this outage lasted for days as well.
