After a great Wrestlemania 38 night one. There was a lot to look forward to on Wrestlemania 38 night two. Was it be able to deliver? Let’s break it down!
The show’s first big moment came right at the start. When the recently retired HHH came out to a thunderous reception. A great moment with HHH taking in the crowd. Before delivering the iconic “Welcome to Wrestlemania.” line. There was also the symbolism of him leaving his wrestling boots in the ring. Officially bringing a close to his in-ring career after a serious health problem last year.
RK-Bro (c) def. The Street Profits and Alpha Academy – RAW Tag Championship Match
RK-Bro retained their titles in this excellent fast-paced match. All three teams had moments to shine in the chaos. Dives to the outside, double team moves galore. Some great moments. Including a double team Blockbuster by The Street Profits. Just when it looked like Montez Ford would pick up the win for The Street Profits. With a splash on Orton. Riddle out of nowhere would hit a top rope RKO on Ford. Moments after Orton caught Chad Gable with an RKO of his own for the win.
The biggest moment potentially was what happened after the match. During a celebration between RK-Bro, Street Profits and Gable Steveson who was in the crowd for the match. Chad Gable of Alpha Academy would get into Steveson’s face. Promptly receiving a Belly to Belly Suplex from the Olympic Gold Medalist. Will he be the massive star WWE expect? Time will tell. Match Rating 4/5
Bobby Lashley def. Omos
This one initially looked like another squash match for Omos. With him dominating former WWE Champion Lashley. In the end, though, after a suplex and two spears. Lashley would pick up the win.
Although there wasn’t much to this match. It did the job it needed to. Omos looked like a real threat to top stars. Lashley remained strong and got a big win. Match Rating 3/5
Johnny Knoxville def. Sami Zayn – Anything Goes Match
In what was sure to be a fun one. Knoxville got the win after a lot of help from the Jackass crew. With great moments involving Chris ‘Party Boy’ Pontius and Wee-Man. In a particularly fun moment, Wee-Man slammed Zayn. Eventually, Knoxville would use a Giant Mouse Trap to hold Zayn down for the pin.
This was a super fun match. That didn’t go too long and was full of great moments and cameos. One that even a super casual fan would enjoy. That’s exactly what it was for! Great stuff. Match Rating 3.5/5
Sasha Banks and Naomi def. Carmella and Queen Zelina (c), Liv Morgan and Rhea Ripley, Natalya and Shayna Baszler – Women’s Tag Championship Match
Not too much to say on this one, another super fast-paced match. Completely exceeded expectations, with great back and forth between all the teams. In a somewhat predictable result. Banks and Naomi got the win after a double-team move on Carmella.
In a match, I didn’t care about story-wise. All four teams delivered in the ring. So much so that it made me care by the end. Match Rating 3.5/5
Edge def. AJ Styles
This one was probably the best match of night two. Great wrestling and in-ring storytelling. Edge was on top for most of the match. With AJ unable to hit his big moves. That was until a Suplex to the apron on Edge. Which changed the momentum. Leading to a great exchange where AJ would hop over an attempted Spear by Edge. Hitting a Styles Clash, finally. It wasn’t enough to put Edge away, though. So AJ would set up the Phenomenal Forearm, but before he could pull it off. Damien Preist would appear from nowhere. Distracting AJ long enough for Edge to counter with a Spear for the win.
Damien would celebrate with Edge after the match. Joining forces.
Excellent match, delivering in the ring and furthering Edge’s new character. Match Rating 4.5/5
Sheamus and Ridge Holland def. New Day
This was a shame. Not because it was bad. I still enjoyed it for what it was. They did the best with the time they had available it was just super short. Sheamus got the win after Butch caused a distraction. New Day’s attire was a nice tribute to injured partner Big E. Match Rating 3/5
Pat Mcafee def. Austin Theory/Mr McMahon def. Mcafee
Super fun match. Pat did a great job selling Theory’s offense. Pulling off a great move of his own, a Superplex from the top rope. Eventually winning with a roll-up.
The real story here was what happened next, though. After his great win against Theory. Mcafee would challenge McMahon to a match which was quickly accepted. This, of course, was a mistake for Mcafee. The despicable McMahon would win after Theory attacked Mcafee from behind twice.
Ultimately this would bring out Stone Cold. Who would hit Stunners on both McMahon and Austin Theory. He went on to celebrate with Mcafee. Until he decided to hit him with a Stunner as well. Great moment for the crowd. Fun match. Match Rating 4/5
Roman Reigns (c) def. Brock Lesnar (c) – WWE/Universal Championship Unification Match
Here it was, the one everyone was waiting for. Brock started on top. Dominating Reigns in the ring, on the outside, though, things changed. A distraction by Paul Heyman allowed Reigns to Spear Brock through the barricade. This was a turning point. Reigns, however, just could not put Brock away. Even after a low blow while the referee was down. Brock looked like he might win with a Kamura Lock. Until Heyman pushed the rope closer to Reigns for a rope break. Reigns may have been legit injured here? Muscle tear or dislocated shoulder? His arm didn’t look good. Things ended soon after with a Spear after reversing Brock’s F-5 for the win.
Great match with lots of finishers and false finishes. Delivered exactly as needed. Shame it ended so abruptly. Match Rating 4.5/5
Summary
Wrestlemania Night Two was a great show with great wrestling. While it may not have reached the highs of Cody’s return or the Becky vs Bianca match from Night One. It was a more consistent show across the board with great matches and something for everyone.
