Netflix Is Raising Its Prices Again Again

Netflix is about to bring us yet another price hike. Get ready, folks for another price hike in the world of streaming media, as Netflix’s upcoming price increase is almost upon us. Just a few weeks back, the giant streaming company announced it would raise its pricing as of March 18, 2022. This follows the prior price increases in 2017, 2019, and 2020.

As for why Netflix is introducing another price increase, only two years after its last change is due to “This update will allow us to deliver even more value for your membership — with stories that lift you up, move you or simply make your day a little better.” That’s their words. What we hear, however, is Netflix needs to offset the cost of creating hundreds of original content, and that’s understandable. But, why not just say that instead of trying to candy-coat things?

I adore Netflix, and I’ll be the first to recommend the service to anyone looking to cut the cord. Its content has been amazing, and shows such as Cobra Kai, Raising Dion, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, Voltron Legendary Defender, and many others have given me hours of enjoyment. Yes, even the failure that was Cowboy Bebop the Live-Action Show.

Here’s how the pricing will look for each of Netflix’s current tiers.

Netflix 2022 price hike

Basic – pricing changes from $8.99 to $9.99, a $1 increase.
Standard – Pricing changes from $13.99 to  $15.49, a $1.50 increase.
Premium – Pricing changes from $18.99 to $19.99, a $1 increase

This is the fifth price increase for Netflix, and it seems this is being done every two years. However, this is starting to raise some concerns. With the number of streaming services out there, some will need to step back and evaluate things. Whle we all thought streaming companies like Netflix would be our savior from cable companies, they’re starting to look like the same damned thing.

I can just justify $20 a month, as my family practically lives on Netflix. However, if we end up seeing an even high price hike in 2024, I may need to think about where my money is going.
