Paramount and Sega Working on Third ‘Sonic The Hedgehog Movie’ and a Live-Action Series

Sega and Paramount found success with their first ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ movie. While the second movie hasn’t been released in theaters as of yet, the pair have already announced that a third movie is already in development. That’s not all, as they’ve also announced that a live-action series is also in development and will feature Knuckles the Echidna, voiced by Idris Elba. This series will debut exclusively on Paramount streaming service, Paramount Plus. Talk about gotta go fast!

“We are delighted to announce that the third Sonic theatrical film and the first live-action Sonic series for Paramount+ are being actively developed. We’ve got a remarkable partnership with Paramount, and we are excited to continue expanding the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise with them. 2022 is shaping up to be a significant year for the franchise with the second film being released this April, as well as Sonic Frontiers, the highly anticipated video game title, coming this holiday. Sonic has been beloved by fans across the world for over 30 years and we look forward to continuing to bring memorable moments and experiences to them for many years to come.” — said CEO of Sega Haruki Satomi

As a huge fan of Sonic the Hedgehog, I love the news. More Sonic being confirmed tells me they’re already assuming the second movie will be big.

Currently, no information regarding the 3rd Sonic the Hedgehog movie of the live-action series was shared. I’d imagine, given that it’s both too soon and that we’ll have to see what events play out in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. The follow-up to perhaps the best (I said it) video game adaption yet, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will see the return of Dr. Robotnik (Eggman), as well as the introduction of both Knuckles the Echidna and Sonic’s faithful sidekick, Miles Prowler.

While the sequel does look to play off of the Sonic the Hedgehog videogame, I don’t suspect things will go as we remember them.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 hits movie theaters on April 8, 2022.
