No Current Plans For NEO The World Ends With You Sequel Says Team

By Todd BlackDecember 22, 2021
NEO The World Ends with You

The Nintendo Switch had many big 3rd party titles come out this year, and several were from Square Enix. As they brought titles like Bravely Default II and the Life is Strange series to the console. But, the game that many were looking forward to the most was that of NEO The World Ends With You. The sequel to the cult-classic DS game finally arrived, and as many (including us in our review) noted, the game was great.

However, sales haven’t been the best according to Square Enix, and so when the team was asked about a sequel, their answers were…not what fans would hope for.

Producer Tomohiko Hirano said to PC Invasion:

To be candid, we don’t have any current plans for the next installment. However, there are still many areas in the city of Shibuya that we haven’t been able to recreate in either title, so a part of me wants to realize that in some shape or form. Please continue to share your passion and love for the game – perhaps then our company will have us make a sequel.

Series director Tatsuya Kando weighed in as well, adding:

I feel like I’ve done what I can for the time being – NEO turned out to be a game that I packed with fourteen years’ worth of thought and emotion, so I feel like I’ve given it my all. I’ll continue to take a look at fan feedback to see how they perceived the game, and from there see what the best path forward might be.

So hope is not lost, if you want a sequel for the game, make your voice heard! It may take a while, but we might just get it.
