Makoto Shinkai Announces New Anime Film Suzume no Tojimari

Makoto Shinkai announced his newest film, Suzume no Tojimari! The announcement was made ahead of the press conference on the Toho YouTube channel.

The film is described as follows:

Suzume no Tojimari is the story of a 17-year-old girl Suzume who lives in Kyushu that discovers a door with the aid of a young man. Upon opening the door, more doors appear across Japan, bringing disasters and bad luck. Suzume must close the doors found in abandoned buildings across Japan before the country falls to catastrophe.

Suzume no Tojimari

Shinkai himself sent out a tweet that called Suzume no Tojimari a modern adventure story with action elements of Suzume traveling across Japan.

The staff for the movie was also announced which are as follows:

  • Masayoshi Tanaka – Character Designer
  • Kenichi Tsuchiya – Animation Director
  • Takumi Tanji – Art Director
  • CoMix Wave & STORY Inc. – Film Producers
  • Toho – Distributor

Tanaka, Tsuchiya, and Tanji previously worked with Shinkai on your name. and Weathering with You.

Suzume no Tojimari is slated to release in Fall 2022.
