But what exactly is The Matrix Awakens?
For a few weeks now, we’ve seen talk surrounding some event for the upcoming ‘Matrix Resurrections‘ movie that would take place on the Xbox and PlayStation consoles. Today, it was confirmed that this event is called “The Matrix Awakens” and will be available on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles.

As for what The Matrix Awakens is, well, we don’t quite know. Other than the summary provided, that is.
“Created by members of the original movie team including Lana Wachowski along with Epic Games and partners, ‘The Matrix Awakens: An Unreal Engine 5 Experience’ is a wild ride into the reality-bending universe of ‘The Matrix’ that features performances by Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss.”
Seeing that this is powered by Epic Games Unreal Engine 5, and given what the summary states, this is likely another showcase of what the game engine is possible of. What this is, however, is not a game. So please don’t go into this assuming this will be an announcement of some The Matrix game. While that would be interesting, we haven’t heard of anyone working any such game.
The Matrix Awakens will be released during the 2021 The Game Awards Show. Until then, anyone who wants to check out this event can pre-order it now on either the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S.
