Dragon Ball: The Breakers is a new survival horror game based in the Dragon Ball universe

A new Dragon Ball game has been announced, and it’s a departure from what you’re used to. Dragon Ball: The Breakers is a unique spin on the Dragon Ball franchises that pits gamers in the role of survivors a customized character, trying to get away from an ultra-powerful raider, either Cell or Frieza. Or they can play as the raider, who’s out to kill everyone in sight.

Yep, this is a Dragon Ball survival horror game and it sounds, well, weird for this sort of franchise.

Survivors will have to run and fight against Cell or Frieza, without the help of Goku, Gohan, Vegeta, or Trunks? That sounds like a nightmare. Players searching for the time machine to escape the nightmare won’t have an easy time, that’s for sure. Hell, I might even want to play as the bad guy; I always enjoyed Cell.

Check out the announcement trailer below:

This definitely sounds like Dead by Daylight but in the Dragon Ball universe. Also, you’ll notice that this isn’t Dragon Ball Z, so there are no crazy power levels going on here.

Here’s the breakdown of the game per Bandai Namco:

Dragon Ball: The Breakers consists of 7v1 matches where seven normal “Survivors” have been sucked into a mysterious phenomenon called the “Temporal Seam” and must contend with the overwhelming power of the eighth player, the franchise iconic rival “Raider,” whose task is to obliterate the Survivor team. The Survivors don’t have any superpowers and must rely on various power-up items, weapons, and pilotable vehicles to battle and evade the Raider while searching for the Super Time Machine to escape oblivion. Concurrently, the Raider will be able to play as Cell, Buu, or Frieza and amass overwhelming power to destroy the Survivor team throughout the match, ensuring complete dominance.

Dragon Ball: The Breakers also features a Survivor character customization mode which enables players to design their match avatars by using familiar DRAGON BALL Survivor skins and decorative equipment earned with in-game credits or via optional in-game purchases. Additionally, DRAGON BALL: THE BREAKERS will link save data with DRAGON BALL XENOVERSE 2. Stay tuned for more updates in the future.

Dragon Ball: The Breakers is slated to be released in 2022 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch. A PC beta is also planned and will be released for the PC. More information on this beta will be shared in the future.
