Back 4 Blood really doesn’t want you playing Solo

Back 4 Blood is finally out, and everyone’s enjoying it so far. Well, almost everyone, that is. I noticed last night as I fired up the game for the first time and wondered if I could play it solo. Sure, it’s a team-based game, but sometimes you want to play by yourself. Surprisingly you can play the game solo, but it comes with some heavy restrictions.

Before anyone can play solo, you are warned that there won’t be any matchmaking, and player invites are disabled, which makes sense if you’re playing solo. However, earning supply points, stat tracking, and earning progress towards accomplishments are also disabled.

Of course, you’re still welcome to play solo if neither of those things is essential to you. But the way this is laid out makes me feel like playing solo is just to get a feel for the game. Regardless, it still is a bummer that this mode is even in the game, but it hinders you that much. Of course, playing Back 4 Blood is more rewarding when you have a team that knows what they’re doing. I don’t want to play with random players who constantly harass the birds and causing the group to wipe. Let me play the game I want to play it, instead of focusing me otherwise. Heck, I might be able to handle the zombies by myself instead of some extra baggage slowing me down. You never know.

Back 4 Blood is currently available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Players who purchased the Back 4 Blood Ultimate Edition can play the game now, while everyone else will need to wait until October 12th, 2021, to start slaying some zombies.
