Bayonetta 3 Lead Hideki Kamiya Explains Why It’s Coming Solely To Switch

By Todd BlackSeptember 26, 2021
Bayonetta 3

Bayonetta as a franchise has a very interesting history in terms of development. The original game came out on the Xbox 360 and PS3 and was a hit, selling over 2 million copies on those systems combined. A very solid release by all metrics. But surprisingly, it didn’t get a sequel…until Nintendo came along and allowed Platinum Games to make Bayonetta 2 on the Wii U, which eventually got ported over to the Nintendo Switch (along with the original) for even more fans to get. And then, there’s Bayonetta 3.

The game was announced at The Game Awards in 2017, but it wasn’t until the last Nintendo Direct that we actually got to see Bayonetta in action again. Now we know the game will arrive on the Nintendo Switch in 2022, and that has most happy. But others have wondered whether it might go back to being multi-platform. To which we go to Hideki Kamiya, who did an interview that put everything into perspective:

Just like with Bayonetta 2, we’re developing Bayonetta 3 with funding from Nintendo. We are only involved in development. All decisions about the final product are up to Nintendo. So feel free to send your requests of ‘release the game on other consoles’ to Nintendo. If Nintendo asks us to port the game to PS5, we might do that.

I mean, I guess the likelihood of Bayonetta 2 and 3 coming to PS5 and Xbox isn’t impossible – it’s Nintendo’s decision. By that same logic, it’s not impossible that games like Mario and Zelda could be show up on PS5 or whatever. So good luck sending passionate pleas to Nintendo and trying to get that to happen… If I were you, I’d simply buy a Switch.

Just about sums it up, doesn’t it? You can watch the new trailer for the game below:
