Yet another Grand Theft Auto rerelease is coming

By Ryan EasbyAugust 12, 2021

According to a fresh report from Kotaku, a Grand Theft Auto remastered trilogy is coming to consoles later this year. The remaster will consist of Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto San Andreas. The games are being remastered using unreal engine and will contain a mix of “new and old graphics”. One of the sources that spoke to Kotaku claims that the UI for the games is also being updated.

Last year rumours began to circle when Rockstar began removing old GTA mods from the internet while Take-Two mentioned (without listing the games) that they were developing three remastered games.

The report states that Rockstar Dundee is developing the remastered games, and is also heavily involved with the GTA V ports for next-gen systems. There are also claims that Rockstar is looking to develop ports of Red Dead Redemption if the ports sell well, which is why Red Dead Online has had fewer and fewer updates. It seems that plans were in place to release the ports alongside next-generation versions of Grand Theft Auto V, but those plans have now shifted and changed so that Rockstar will be releasing the games as a separate package.

This news will come both as a welcome shock and an annoying nuisance to fans of the series, as gamers have been waiting on news on a new iteration of Grand Theft Auto. Given how there have been seemingly six million different versions of Grand Theft Auto V (Perhaps an overexaggerating, but you get what I mean), people were hoping to get something new. But it looks like these people will be waiting for even longer to see more from their favourite series.

Ryan Easby is a writer by trade and by passion. He's been playing video games from a young age, with his introduction to gaming being a SNES, while his peers were playing the original Xbox. If you need to talk about Kingdom Hearts, he's your guy. Can often be found dying repeatedly in a game.
