Battlefield 2042 will have cross-play and cross-progression, closed beta delayed to later this summer

By Poch SaldanaJuly 14, 2021

A new slew of information for Battlefield 2042 has surfaced thanks to a recent FAQ posted by EA’s community manager. This includes confirmation of cross-play and cross-progression being developed for the blockbuster title.

Battlefield 2042’s “Technical Playtest”, which is the franchise’s esoteric term for their invite-only closed beta, has also been slightly delayed to later this summer in order to further develop their cross-play framework and assure that it’s in a stable place in time for the beta.

As of right now, and in their planned Techincal Playtest, cross-play is planned to work in a manner wherein PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC users will be able to play amongst each other while PS4 and Xbox One players can do the same. PC and console players can opt out from playing with each other as is the norm since mouse-and-keyboard could be deemed an unfair advantage, especially in quick-twitch FPS titles.

Cross-progression in Battlefield 2042 is self-explanatory in that will allow players to save progress and purchases across all platforms. For instance, purchases in the PS5 version of the game will be retained if the same account is used on other platforms.

Other details were disclosed about the new shooter including class/loadout systems, game modes, maps, and a lovely Q&A with one of the 3D artists working on Battlefield 2042 Joel Zakrisson, the same individual responsible for adding waddling penguins into the game’s reveal trailer.

We still don’t have all the concrete details on the title but take a peek at this article for a deeper dive into all the information we have right now on Battlefield 2042.

Battlefield 2042 is being developed by DICE and published by EA. The title is slated for an October 22, 2021 release for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

Big fan of games, writing, and writing about games! Two things Poch will always stand by--the Vita was ahead of its time and the world is a better place with a new Rhythm Heaven on the horizon.
