A Plague Tale: Innocence next-gen upgrade out now

By Poch SaldanaJuly 5, 2021

During last month’s E3, Focus Home Interactive and Asobo Studios announced that a free next-gen patch for their well-renowned A Plague Tale: Innocence would come out on July 6 for PS5 and Xbox Series S|X fully utilizing the machines’ capabilities. The patch was sent out a day early and is available to download now.

The upgrade comes in at around 42 GB for Xbox consoles and 31 for PS5. The new version includes doubling the game’s frame rate from 30 to 60, higher quality textures, a boost in resolution to 4K (except for Series S), and 3D audio support.

A Plague Tale: Innocence’s next-gen patch also coincides, or at least was supposed to, with the game’s free release for PS+ owners on July 6 while Xbox owners have been able to download the title through Xbox Game Pass since January of last year. A cloud version of the game has also been released for the Switch but seems to not include any of the new enhancements and rather runs the original base game.

A Plague Tale: Requiem, the newest entry in the Plague Tale series, was announced at E3 2021 during the Xbox + Bethesda Games Showcase that ostensibly flexed Asobo Studio’s technical expertise in graphical flair. The gorgeous trailer presented a peak in the game’s rat-ridden world with quite literally a tsunami of rodents.  The sequel is set to release in 2022 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and a cloud version for the Switch.

Big fan of games, writing, and writing about games! Two things Poch will always stand by--the Vita was ahead of its time and the world is a better place with a new Rhythm Heaven on the horizon.
