Doki Doki Literature Club Plus Will Soon Come to Consoles

By Andrew AgressJune 12, 2021

A new and improved version of hit visual novel Doki Doki Literature Club will soon arrive on consoles and PC this month. The news of the updated game came from creator Dan Salvato, who took to Twitter to announce the new features of the title. Entitled Doki Doki Literature Club Plus, it consists of the original 2017 game but with six extra side stories focusing on the friendships between the various characters.

If that sounds nice and wholesome to you, I should mention that Doki Doki Literature Club is a horror game. Yes, it looks like a nice dating sim, and for some time it is. But eventually things take a turn for the terrifying. I won’t spoil much more, but the game does come with a warning about how disturbing it gets, which I promptly disregarded due to the cutesy visuals. Oh, how I learned my lesson.

Doki Doki Literature Club Plus will feature new artwork and music to accompany the added side stories. It will also include a built-in music player and a picture gallery with concept art and wallpapers.

The updated game will release on June 30th for PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The digital version retails for $14.99 although not every console store has posted official prices yet.

Publisher Serenity Forge also has a physical edition up for preorder for $29.99 for Nintendo Switch, PS4, and PS5. Each physical edition comes with a copy of the game, four 2″ character standees, a soundtrack download code, 17 stickers, a club membership card, and a poem by club president Monika. The Switch version also comes with an exclusive poem notebook inner coversheet.

As of now the physical edition preorders are already out of stock, but Serenity Forge promises that there will be more in the future. You can follow their Twitter for stock updates.

If you still don’t believe this is a horror game, we called the original Doki Doki Literature Club one of the spookiest games to play for Halloween. We also named it one of our favorite games of 2017, so we’re not surprised the updated version already has a ton of preorders. It’s a popular club.
